Clarification of the recertification requirements for an EMT who has allowed their certification to expire. This was received from the State Office of Emergency Medical Services. Short History: In June of 2004, the new regulations regarding the entire EMT certification/recertification process were adopted. They had not been updated for a number of years. | |
"In reference to the two year period for re-entry...there was an addendum made to the regulations in reference to the re-entry time frame (from the proposed regulations). This document was posted and sent to all Coordinators on September 15, 2004. The documentation states.... "Those whose New Jersey EMT-B certification has expired beyond 24 months are no longer eligible for re-entry without successfully completing the US DOT EMT-B Training Program (entire course). 8:40A-7.6(a) Expired Certifications (a) The requirements for certification of a person formerly certified as an EMT-Basic who has allowed that certification to expire (that is, a person who, for whatever reason, has not completed the required number of continuing education credits necessary for recertification) shall be as follows:
Anyone who has expired and wishes to re-enter must complete the requirements listed above. Please keep in mind that if the candidate reaches an expiration date of two years they will have to return to a basic program. Once the candidate has completed the core 13 program they will have one year (provided they are still within the two year time frame) to complete the entire testing process. Testing process:
